His talent as an educator, led him to being the Director for continuing education departments in a number of colleges including St. Lawrence. Later he was the founder of Nicola Valley Institute of Technology and ultimately Principal of Brantford Ontario's Mohawk College.
SLC employees during its first decade will remember Doug Baker. He worked at the college from 1970 to 1977. The accompanying photo is from that period.
He was initially hired as the Coordinator of Continuing Education and also taught courses in community development. While at SLC, Doug created some of its most interesting experiments in educational programming through such bodies as the Community Education Council. He also initiated North Frontenac Community Services, one of the early outreach programs.
The large number of lengthy condolences posted on the funeral home website paint a picture of someone who made a great difference in the lives of others.
Douglas is survived by wife Judith McLean, his daughter Camille Baker, his brother Ken Baker, and sister Sherry Baker.
