Henry is also survived by extended family in both the Netherlands and Canada, including his siblings Dick (Els), Ria, Atty (Wim) and Toos. Henry will also be greatly remembered and missed by numerous friends, students and artists in Brockville, the greater eastern Ontario area, St George Island Florida, Upstate New York and West Virginia.
Henry Vyfvinkel immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in March 1956. He became a Canadian Citizen in 1966. Henry created the Summerarts program in 1972 which evolved to become the Summer School of the Arts for St. Lawrence College. A member since 1991, Henry was made a Life Member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour in 2009.
He was nominated by St Lawrence College for the Ontario Premiers Award in 2005 for his work and contributions and also made an honorary Citizen of Lyn, Ontario.
Over the years Henry received innumerable awards and accolades for both his teaching and artistry. A celebration of Henry’s life and career has been arranged for Saturday, September 6th, 1-4 PM at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery, St. Lawrence College, 2288 Parkedale Ave., Brockville, Ontario (613 544 5400).
