David McKay was born in Whitby, and earned a business diploma from Centennial College and a BA and MA from Waterloo University. Before coming to Kingston, he worked at the Pinewood Centre in Oshawa in substance abuse, stress management, and children’s mental health. In 1978, he joined the staff at SLC in the Behavioural Science Program where over the years he taught psychology, applied behaviour analysis, and cognitive social learning theory. Always an innovator, in 1999, he developed, initiated, and implemented the Acquired Brain Injury Facilitator Program, a post diploma program which trained students in the ABI field. His desire for collecting and filing current research led to his famous “office from hell”. David was twice awarded teacher of the year.
