KINGSTON RED BARONS: 50th REUNION
Dick Tindal
The ground-breaking (or should that be ice-breaking) Red Barons were a ladies hockey team based in Kingston that began some 50 years ago and included Verna Lee, a former Kingston Campus employee and a member of the Retirees Association. Verna was among those who came to 1066 King West (where two others from the Red Barons live) on a Sunday morning in early November and I was asked – as the resident roving reporter – to attend and take the photo shown here. The members of the team had gathered to meet with Bridget Doherty, City Councillor for this district, to present her with a cheque for the Sisters of Providence, as part of the funds left from their recent reunion – but I am getting ahead of the story. It is time to learn more about this legendary hockey team, as recounted by Verna Lee, Red Baron #10.
