The accompanying photo of Association member David Grightmire was featured in a recent issue of the Kingston Whig Standard. He is accessing the Coffeeco store on King Street using a custom-build temporary ramp made by volunteers from StopGap Kingston. The local chapter of this group has installed these ramps at 10 businesses in downtown Kingston and StopGap ramps are now found in some 20 communities across Canada. They make entrances with a small (15 centimetre) step accessible for those in wheelchairs. What Chuck did was to remind me of a wonderful tribute publication from the time Luella MacDonald left St. Lawrence College. That prompted me to start looking for a story about Luella that had been posted in our "Memories" section at the old website quite a while back. In the process, I discovered that about a half dozen of the early stories had never been transferred from that old website to this new one. I suspect that most of you have never read these, because we had few visitors to that old site.
The result of all this is that you will find a number of new posts in the Memories section, including a new one about Luella and that tribute document. Enjoy - and thanks again Chuck. If you plan to attend this lunch, you need to let Dick Tindal know ([email protected]) no later than November 4. The Club will provide a choice of three mains for lunch: (1) Atlantic Salmon Fillet, with basmati rice and green beans. (2) Chicken Wrap, with choice of fries, sweet potato fries, or salad. [There are gluten free wraps for the chicken.] (3) Beef Dip, with the same choices. Also included with the lunch will be “Something Chocolate” and coffee or tea. Total cost of the lunch, including taxes and tip, will be $25 This year’s General Meeting will be held at Georgian College, Barrie Ontario. Those who are members of OCRA will presumably already have received a letter and brochure in the mail. But this post is a reminder for those folks and also provides information for non-members in case they are interested in attending and, perhaps, joining OCRA. The keynote speech at this year’s AGM will be on the changes to the Estate Administration Tax Act (Ontario), a subject of considerable relevance for retirees as was mentioned in an earlier post at our website. http://ocraretirees.ca/pdf%20files/annual%20meetings/011_gm_2015/ocra_gm_2015%20brochure.pdf |
