Terry was a powerful teacher and mentor. I envied his unrelenting love of language. We imitated his clever, respectful, thoughtful, effective ways of reaching his students, and I wished more than once that I could pull from them the creative pearls he mined again and again.
Not once in all these years did I see Terry as a victim. He took responsibility for his
whole life, all its parts, kept every agreement he ever had with me and told the truth
every time about everything.
He was a boomer who knew the landscape inside himself as well as he knew and
loved the terrain of Frontenac Provincial Park. Terry Fuchs was one of the most integrated, happy men I’ve known. I miss him. His community misses him. He teaches us even now.
