Jim was active in a number of organizations, including the Queen’s Alumni Association, the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Engineering Institute of Canada, and the Navy League of Canada. He was instrumental in creating a permanent Veterans’ Memorial Room in the John Deutsch Centre at Queen’s.
Jim retired from the college in 1983, perhaps to have more time for his golf game. He was an ardent golfer and former President Bill Cruden claimed that Jim became a member of the St. Lawrence faculty because of the proximity of his office to the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club. He died February 1, 2007.
