National University of Natural Medicine President David Schleich Announces Retirement
Local Boy Makes Good
By Dick Tindal
David Schleich joined SLC as a callow youth back in 1977. Like me, he was very shy at the time, but the nurturing atmosphere of St. Lawrence helped him to become more outgoing. [Hanging around with characters like Tom Harpell and playing in a local rock band may have helped too.]
In any event, David pursued an increasing prestigious academic career following his time at SLC (which ended in 1991), including with Niagara College, the University of Alberta, and Swinburne University in Australia. He was also President of Truestar Health in Toronto. [Poor fellow just couldn’t seem to hold on to a job!]
In 2007 David became President of what was then the National College of Natural Medicine, in Portland, Oregon. Under his leadership, the programs of this institution expanded significantly and it became the National University of Natural Medicine. David is retiring as President effective July 1, 2019 (thoughtfully choosing Canada’s birthday to mark the occasion). He will continue to pursue some business interests and those of us who know him don’t expect that he will spend much time in a rocking chair for the foreseeable future.
Congratulations David, and best wishes from an SLC colleague.
