On July 17, 2009, former nursing professor Shirley Parent died after a brief illness. Shirley’s life was filled with the love of her family to whom she was devoted – husband Bob, 4 children, 8 grandchildren and there was always a dog or two at home. Not long before her death she spoke of her ongoing passion for nursing which she shared with her students at St. Lawrence College from 1977‐94. After retirement Shirley remained active in the community taking on leadership roles with the CWL at the Church of the Good Thief and the Auxiliary at Ongwanada. Throughout her life, Shirley was an accomplished artist and painter and remained at heart a caregiver.

A wonderful nurse and a great friend. I miss our monthly dinners.

We had several, wonderful Caribbean vacations together. She was a devoted wife and mother, tireless supporter of her church and a warm-hearted friend to many.
