Sam was one of the 17 original faculty and staff who opened the Brockville Campus on August 1, 1970. He joined Don Riddell, Jim Hatton, Frank Hodgins, Vivien Julien and Bill Masson under
Chair Howat Noble, to form the Adult Education Department. The Principal and Chair of Technology was Don Anderson, with Ray Sommerville as Registrar, and Dan Dexter and Rick Dunn in the Business Department. Sam and Vivien were instrumental in introducing and implementing learning mastery by objectives for all English Language programs at the campus.
Sam and his wife Shirley came to the College from a career as a minister in the local Dutch Community Church. Sam and Shirley were strong supporters of our faculty association, and Sam later served as President of the Faculty Union local 417. He was an avid golfer, a skilled pool shooter, and loved to play bid Euchre (SHOOT) at lunch time in the staff lounge. He retired from teaching in the summer of 1996.
